In celebration of the five year anniversary of our office manager
and birthdays of a few agents, our RE/MAX office hosted a happy hour at
Nellie Green's Restaurant in Branford Connecticut this past Friday night.
Nellie Green's riverside location tucked away in the Branford Marina
serves up the finest food and drink where you can dine in relaxed
casual elegance in the dining room or outside deck and enjoy gorgeous
views of Branford Landing's waterfront.
You might remember back in the 1970's the Talmadge Hotel and Nellie
Green's Restaurant famously known as a bar and nightclub was located on
Short Beach Road.
Nellie Green
is a legendary lady and had a reputation of being the fastest
rum-runner on the East Coast during the Prohibition Era who secretly
ran a speak-easy out of the hotel. After Prohibition the speak-easy
became a legitimate high-class nightspot and attracted many famous
singing, stage and screen celebrities who would travel from all over
just to dine there.
In 1952 Nellie passed away but the restaurant and hotel remained open until 1981 and has since been replaced with condos.
The new Nellie Green's was brought back to life in April 2007 when
now owner Mike Savinelli read the story of Nellie Green and wanted to
bring her name back and looked for the perfect spot to reopen Nellie's
new home.
Mike with the help of his young 24-year old new chef Daniel Garbarino who has developed a wide ranging menu of
delicious extraordinary recipes along with the traditional favorites
have created an atmosphere for patrons to enjoy the finest in American
Bistro dining cuisine.
With summer just around the corner, the deck outside at Nellie
Green's is the perfecct spot for breakfast, lunch and dinner and is
open from Memorial Day to Columbus Day.
Nellie Green's is open Sunday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to
10:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11:30 a.m to 11:00 p.m. and hosts
a Happy Hour Monday through Friday from 4:00 p.m to 6:00 p.m.
