| Town of Clinton
This area was originally settled as the town of Kenilworth in the mid-17th century and later renamed Killingworth. In 1838 the southern portion of the town was incorporated as the town of Clinton. Early development of the New England village included fishing, shipbuilding and farming.
The Boston Post Road runs through the town center with its charming Town Hall, old New England church, town Green and picturesque historic homes.
Water oriented recreation is a popular pastime in Clinton. The many marinas serve as boating and fishing centers on the Shoreline. The ever popular Bluefish Festival in the summer attracts visitors from near and far. Other recreational facilities include 56 acres of hiking trails, an 18 hole golf course, picnic areas and beaches.
Another local attraction is the Chammard Vineyard which is open to the public for tours and wine tasting and has been rated “First Rate” by the New York Times for its Chardonnay wine.
Clinton is a friendly and warm community with much to offer.
